Welcome to the English Idioms Course!
Before we begin, I want to teach you the method we will use to help you get the most benefit out of the lessons.
You’re going to learn the idioms by the discovery method – so each lesson starts with a quiz, where I’ll show you an example of the idiom in context, and you’ll try to guess what it means. It will be multiple choice; I’ll give you three possible definitions. Choose which one you think is the meaning of the idiom in the sentence, then you can check your answers by clicking “Finish quiz” and “View questions.”
Why do I use this method? Because it’s a good way for you to interact with the idioms and think actively about what they mean. This is much more interesting and effective than just watching passively and trying to remember everything later.
Next, watch the video explanation, where I’ll teach you what each idiom means with more examples.
Then it’s time to do the practice quiz, where you can choose the correct idiom to complete each sentence. Check your answers yourself by clicking “Finish quiz” and “View questions.”
Then move on to the short-answer questions, which are designed to help you use these idioms in your own English. You can send in your answers for feedback and correction by typing them into the form on the website and clicking “Send my answers, and the Espresso English teaching team will reply to you by e-mail.
As you finish each activity, make sure to click “Mark complete” to check it off – great job!

As I mentioned, all these steps help you learn better because you interact more intensely with each idiom, and you can put them into practice, which makes them easier to remember.
Let’s get started!
