Hi there and welcome to the Advanced English Grammar Course!
In these lessons, you’re going to learn a LOT about English grammar. When you learn correct grammar, then you will be able to speak and write more confidently without wondering, “Am I using the wrong verb tense?” or “I’m not sure if this sentence structure is right…”
English grammar can definitely be confusing, because there are so many complicated rules – and also exceptions to those rules! But I’m going to make it clear so that you can understand it and use it easily. And that’s another focus of this course – helping you put the grammar into practice.
It’s not enough to just understand grammar in theory; you actually need to use it in your English. So inside each of the lessons, there are some moments where I’ll ask you to put it into practice, I will ask you a question or ask you to say a sentence or two using the grammar that you’ve just learned. Make sure you try to do these – don’t be shy. Pause the video if you need some extra time, and then do your best to create a sentence using the grammar you’ve just learned while it’s still fresh in your mind.
Each lesson also includes a quiz to help you practice and review. After answering the questions, check your own answers by clicking “Finish quiz” and “View questions.” Doing the quiz will help you see if you now have a good understanding of the grammar topic, or if you need to go back and review the lesson in order to learn it better.
The final activity is a writing task – this will give you a topic or question and ask you to write a paragraph or two – and you should definitely try to use the grammar from the lesson in your answer!
You can type your writing in the box and click “Send my answers” to send it in for feedback and correction from the Espresso English teaching team. This helps you use English grammar more actively, and it’s also extremely helpful to get feedback either confirming that you’re using English correctly, or else fixing any errors so that you can see where you made mistakes.
Finally, you might be wondering how frequently to take the lessons – should you take a new lesson every day, or once a week? What’s the best rhythm? I recommend doing whatever works for you. If you have time to do a lesson every day, great. If you can only study 2-3 times a week, that’s also fine. You’ll have permanent access to this course; there is no time limit – so take the lessons at whatever pace is comfortable for you.
And make sure to review regularly – you’ll learn a lot of details in each lesson, so it’s important to go back and review them so that you can remember them better.
If you have any questions, if you need clarification, or if you’d like to see more examples of anything in the course, you can e-mail me.
All right, let’s get started! I’m excited to help you improve your grammar and get to the next level in your English. So go ahead and jump into Lesson 1.
